At Rightbuild and Maintenance Ltd, we are fully committed to delivering building projects and maintenance services in a manner that places health, safety, and welfare at the heart of everything we do. We recognise our responsibility to protect our employees, subcontractors, clients, visitors, and the public from harm, and to comply with all relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
To ensure we get this right, we collaborate with industry health and safety consultant, Ricky Nelson of Safety Inspectors UK Ltd, to ensure our systems and operations meet the highest standards of safety compliance and best-practice safety management.
Our Health & Safety Objectives
• Prevent accidents, injuries, and work-related ill-health across all projects.
• Ensure full compliance with legal duties and recognised guidance for building, refurbishment, and maintenance work.
• Promote a positive safety culture where all personnel are encouraged to identify hazards and take action.
• Provide safe systems of work, appropriate training, supervision, and resources to support safe operations.
• Continuously review and improve our health & safety performance through monitoring, audits and lessons learned.
• Ongoing healthy and safety training – we host regular ‘toolbox talks’ for all staff, self employed contractors and sub-contractors.
Roles & Responsibilities
Management
- The management team at Rightbuild and Maintenance Ltd retains ultimate responsibility for health and safety performance.
- We appoint a competent person (in conjunction with Safety Inspectors UK) to ensure effective risk assessment, control, and review of safety systems.
Meet our Health & Safety Consultant – Ricky Nelson of Safety Inspectors UK
We work closely with Safety Inspectors UK to ensure our health and safety policies, procedures and on-site practices meet the highest industry standards. Our retained Health & Safety Consultant, Ricky Nelson, brings exceptional expertise shaped by real-life experience. After suffering a serious occupational exposure earlier in his career, Ricky committed himself to improving workplace safety, so others never face similar risks. That personal journey now drives the thorough, people-focused approach he brings to our business.
Through our partnership, Ricky supports Rightbuild with risk assessments, policy development, audits, training, and continuous compliance improvements. His guidance helps us embed practical, site-specific safety measures across every project, from method statements and toolbox talks to supervision and employee training. This ensures our team, contractors and clients are always protected.

Employees & Subcontractors
- All workers engaged by Rightbuild and Maintenance Ltd must adhere to safe working practices, follow site-specific safety instructions, report hazards, and use the protective equipment provided.
- We ensure subcontractors are competent, registered, and aligned with our health & safety arrangements.
Risk Assessment & Control Measures
- We perform thorough risk assessments for all our activities (e.g., new builds, loft conversions, pool/spa installations, renovations) and establish safe systems of work tailored to each project.
- Controls include method statements, job-specific risk assessments (JSA), permit-to-work where required, toolbox talks, and supervision.
- We monitor hazards such as working at height, electrical work, confined spaces, hot works, and heavy-plant operations, and apply hierarchy of control measures (eliminate, reduce, isolate, protect).
- In partnership with Safety Inspectors UK, we adopt a proactive risk-management approach: identifying, evaluating, and mitigating hazards before incidents occur. Safety Inspectors UK Ltd
Training, Competence & Support
- Rightbuild and Maintenance Ltd ensures all employees and subcontractors receive appropriate training relevant to their roles – including manual handling, fire safety, working at height, PPE use, and more.

- Records of training and competence are maintained and reviewed annually.
Incident Reporting, Investigation & Continuous Improvement
- Any incident, near-miss or unsafe condition must be reported immediately to the site supervisor and documented.
- Ricky and our internal management team will investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- We continuously review safety performance (through audit, inspection, and monitoring) and update our policies, procedures, and training accordingly to drive improvement.
Emergency Preparedness & Fire Safety
- We maintain robust plans for emergency response, evacuation procedures, and fire safety measures across our projects.

- All personnel receive induction on emergency arrangements at the start of each project, and drills are conducted where appropriate.
Monitoring, Auditing & Review
- Regular on-site inspections, audits, and reviews are conducted by our team in partnership with Safety Inspectors UK.
- Key performance indicators (KPIs) including accident frequency, near-miss reports, training completion, and audit findings are tracked.
- This health & safety policy is reviewed annually or whenever there is significant change to our operations, legislation, or organisational structure.
Communication & Employee Involvement
- Rightbuild and Maintenance Ltd fosters open communication on health & safety: toolbox talks, safety briefings, and feedback mechanisms are integral to our culture.
- Employees and subcontractors are encouraged to raise concerns and propose improvements without fear of reprisal.
- We communicate this policy to all personnel, display safety signage on-site, and make the policy available to clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- To uphold our commitment to health and safety practices and our communities we recently published a Building Site Safety Guide to help educate children about the dangers of exposed building sites.
